The George Riser home and boot shop is located on the northwest corner of Main and Parley streets in Nauvoo. This rebuilt structure is representative of other buildings that simultaneously served as both a family dwelling and place of business.
George Riser used his home for his employment as a shoemaker, at which he worked with his brother. He was born in Germany. He and his wife, Christiana, were married in 1841.
They were already residents of Nauvoo before deciding to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were baptized in the Mississippi River on Dec. 12, 1842. A hole had to be cut in the ice for them to be baptized.
Christiana bore nine children, one of whom died in Nauvoo. George married Pamelia Howarth in 1867. She had a son, Jesse George Riser. George died in 1892 and was buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
