Utah State’s Kent Myers was recognized by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) following the Aggies’ 58-27 victory against Wyoming last weekend as the sophomore quarterback was named an honorable mention national performer of the week, it was announced Monday.
It is the first time this year and second time in his career that Myers has been honored by CFPA as he was also recognized once last season.
The 6-foot-0, 195-pound native of Rowlett, Texas, completed 14-of-17 passes (82.3 percent) for 246 yards and three touchdowns in the Aggies’ victory against the Cowboys. He also rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Myers tied his career high with the three touchdown passes, which were from 8, 19 and 25 yards, respectively. He completed his first 10 passes and was 10-of-10 for 171 yards and one touchdown in the first half alone, helping the Aggies build a 30-14 lead at the break.
Myers helped Utah State amass a season-high 592 yards of total offense (14th most in school history) against Wyoming, including a season-high 296 yards passing. The 592 yards of total offense were the most by the Aggies since gaining 646 at 19th-ranked Louisiana Tech in 2012.
Furthermore, the four total touchdowns Myers accounted for helped Utah State score 58 points, its most in a conference game since beating Idaho, 63-17, in 1997. The Aggies also had 34 first downs, which tied a school record.
Myers improved to 9-2 as Utah State’s starting quarterback with the win.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when they take on New Mexico at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m., and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
