The British department store John Lewis has produced tear-jerking Christmas advertisements for the past several years, and its 2015 commercial, "The Man on the Moon," is no exception.
In the advertisement, a young girl looks through the family telescope one night and is astounded to see an elderly man on the moon gazing toward the Earth. After failing to get his attention and watching him go about his lonely life, she resolves to send him a message and a present, regardless of the distance.
The advertisement ends by inviting viewers to "show someone they're loved this Christmas."
The advertisement's music comes from a softer version of the song 1994 rock song "Half the World Away," known as the theme for the BBC sitcom "The Royle Family."
John Lewis' 2014 Christmas advertisement, "Monty the Penguin," garnered over 24 million views.
