A new Mormon Message for Youth teaches the principle of callings to young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“Every calling provides an opportunity to serve and to grow,” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency says in the video. “The Lord organized the church in a way that offers each member an opportunity for service, which in turn leads to personal spiritual growth. Whatever your calling, I urge you to see it as an opportunity, not only to strengthen and bless others, but also to become what Heavenly Father wants you to become.”
The video tells the story of a young man named Daniel, who is called to be his ward’s pianist. With only a few months of experience playing the piano, he accepted the calling.
“The Lord gave us each of our talents so we need to improve them,” Daniel said. “As we serve him we are preparing to go on a mission, we are preparing for something great in our lives to happen. Our duties and calling are very important because we help in the service of the Lord in organizing his church. I feel very happy, I also feel important because the Lord is asking me to serve him. In return, the Lord blessed me with many blessings.”
Daniel compares his experience in making mistakes on the piano with the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
