Twenty-five years ago, on April 24, 1990, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope — a telescope roughly the size of a large school bus, but with the power to forever change the way humans look at the cosmos — was launched from Florida.

Since its launch, the Hubble telescope has traveled more than three billion miles around Earth's orbit and has made more than 1.2 million observations. Although the telescope doesn't travel to stars and planets, its cameras have reached across the universe to send stunning images back to Earth.

Here's a photographic look back through some of the most spectacular images from the Hubble Space Telescope's 25 years in space.
