SALT LAKE CITY — Alliance for a Better Utah executive director Maryann Martindale is stepping down.
Martindale has led the government watchdog group for the past four years.
"I have met the goals I had when beginning this journey and have led the organization to a point where I can move on knowing that it is stronger than ever and will continue to grow and thrive under new leadership," she said.
Better Utah pushes for balance, transparency, accountability in state politics. Under Martindale's direction, it filed a complaint against former Attorney General John Swallow that resulted in the state elections office finding that he violated financial disclosure and conflict of interest laws in his 2012 campaign.
Josh Kanter, Better Utah board president and founder, praised and thanked Martindale for her work.
"Four years ago, the Alliance for a Better Utah was little more than an idea," he said. "Maryann leaves us with a strong foundation."
Martindale will serve as an advisor to the group through the end of May.
