OGDEN — Former Weber State University basketball star and current Portland Trail Blazers all-star point guard Damian Lillard will deliver one of the speeches at WSU's university commencement ceremony at the Dee Events Center on May 1.

Lillard will speak briefly as one of two student speakers on Friday at 8 a.m. before the university’s largest graduating class, according to the university. Lillard will take part in three events: university commencement, a short news conference, and WSU’s College of Applied Science & Technology graduation.

“I was on the phone, I think, and I was telling my agent about how it would work if I was to go to graduation if we were in the playoffs,” said Lillard in a March interview with Trail Blazers blog site ForwardCenter.net.

The Memphis Grizzlies eliminated Portland from the NBA playoffs on Wednesday night, thus allowing Lillard to attend commencement ceremonies.

When drafted by the Trail Blazers in 2012, Lillard left WSU just six credits short from earning his degree in professional sales. Lillard returned to school last summer to finish earning the last six credits.

Congratulations to Damian and all new Weber State graduates.
