For more than seven years, 50 men have taken turns lifting their neighbor into bed every night. A new Mormon Channel video highlights their story and the transformative power of service.
The group of men stepped in to help Kathy, whose last name is not given, after multiple sclerosis left her unable to move from her wheelchair to her bed on her own. Feeling burdened by the nightly obligation, they brainstormed ways to help Kathy that wouldn’t involve going to her house.
“At first, I felt I was taking them away from their families,” Kathy said. “I didn’t want to be a burden.”
However, one man spoke up and said he would go to Kathy’s house every night if no one else was willing. His attitude sparked a change of heart for many of the others.
The men found that lifting Kathy physically lifted them spiritually.
“Every time I’ve gone to Kathy’s home and dealt with her, it feels like it heals a part of my soul,” one man said.
