A study from The Hershey Co. found that Utahns lead the country in candy consumption. Residents of the Beehive State buy sweets at a rate that is nearly double the national average, according to Bloomberg.
Glenn Christensen, a marketing professor at BYU, speculated about the reasons for this finding, citing the health code of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the state's predominate religion.
“We don’t drink alcohol, we don’t smoke, we avoid coffee — but we certainly do sugar,” Christensen said. “It’s the only allowed indulgence.”
