PROVO — The Utah County Health Department will hold a free skin cancer screening clinic.

The clinic is 8:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, May 27, at 151 S. University Ave., Suite 1709.

Doctors and medical personnel will review skin conditions, looking for abnormalities that might indicate or lead to skin cancer. Referrals will be made to local dermatologists for individuals considered to be at risk. Educational materials regarding protection from the sun and free samples of skin products will be distributed.

The health department has said that people may want to get screened if they have a mole or skin lesion that features one of the ABCDEs of skin cancer: Asymmetry, if the lesion is irregular in shape or height; Border: an irregular shape (not round); Coloration, changes, or is different from other moles, or is red or flaky; Diameter, if the size changes; and Evolving, if the mole or lesion is changing size or shape.

Anyone with concerns about a lesion should have it checked by a doctor. At the clinic, a doctor will determine if patients need to be seen by a dermatologist or if any other procedure is needed.

Department staff will provide a list of Utah County dermatologists, and access to financial aid if needed.

For an appointment or for questions, call 801-851-7038, or individuals will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional clinics will be held on June 24, July 29, Aug. 26, Sept. 15-16, Oct. 21, Nov. 17-18, and Dec. 16.
