The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced changes to its Sunday School general presidency Friday.
Brian K. Ashton was called as the second counselor in the presidency, according to mormonnewsroom.org. The current second counselor, Devin G. Durrant, will become the first counselor, and Tad R. Callister will remain the general president.
Brother Ashton will fill the vacancy left by the former first counselor, John S. Tanner, who was called as the president of Brigham Young University-Hawaii on May 12.
Brother Ashton and his wife, Melinda Earl Ashton, are from Highland and have six children. Brother Ashton is the president of the Texas Houston South Mission, where the Ashtons have been serving since July 2012. He will complete his service in Texas this year. At the time of his call to preside over the mission, he was the CEO of Precision Time.
