"THE POWER OF DADHOOD," by Michael Byron Smith, Familius, $16.95, 227 pages (nf)
“The Power of Dadhood,” by Michael Byron Smith, offers tips and suggestions for becoming a dad with a capital “D.”
Drawing on his own experiences, along with research and statistics, Smith provides what he calls “a mentoring book” for all fathers but especially for young fathers and fathers-to-be.
Reminiscent of President Gordon B. Hinckley’s book “Way to Be!” Smith's book offers seven “Be’s” for fathers: “be involved, be principled, be consistent, be loving, be fun, be balanced, and be passionate” about being a father.
Written in first person, the book is conversational, easy to read and filled with story examples from the author’s life that illustrate his points — as a son who needed his dad to be more present and supportive, and as a father of three and a grandfather of four.
Each of the 13 chapters is interspersed with “Tips for Dads” and ends with a “road map” that summarizes the most important points of the chapter and offers ideas to consider and implement. A bibliography of books cited is included.
The book would be an excellent gift for any man who would like to learn more about fatherhood.
