ROY — The fire that destroyed two Roy businesses early Tuesday morning was so thorough that its exact cause likely will remain a mystery, fire officials say.
Firefighters from several agencies responded to Oriental Market, 1788 W. 5300 South, about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to find it in heavy smoke and flames. A defunct haircut business next door in the same building was also engulfed.
Both locations "burned to the ground," and investigators will be unable to determine the cause of the blaze, Roy Fire Chief Jason Poulsen said Wednesday.
Poulsen said there is no indication the fire was set intentionally. The destroyed building amounts to "a couple hundred thousand" dollars in damage, he said, although he did not have an exact figure.
The haircut business had been closed for years, Poulsen said. He wasn't sure whether any of its equipment was still inside at the time of the fire.
Nobody was inside the building at the time of the blaze.
