SAND HOLLOW STATE PARK — A man who drowned at Sand Hollow Reservoir on Wednesday has been identified as an Arizona man.

Hyrum S. Cooke, 26, of Colorado City, just across the border from Hildale, Washington County, died while swimming with friends and family at the southern Utah reservoir around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Cooke's group found him in the reservoir and multiple people unsuccessfully tried to revive him with CPR, said Sand Hollow State Park Manager Laura Melling. Cooke was not wearing a life jacket when he drowned, she said.

Witnesses said Sand Hollow Reservoir was choppy on Wednesday. Cooke wasn't affected by any medical conditions before he drowned, according to Melilng.
