It only took 20 years for a father to finally get the closure he was seeking in the death of his son, and it came by mail.
Twenty-six years after it was postmarked, Duane Schrock finally got the Father’s Day card his son had sent him. However, his son, also named Duane, wasn’t around to marvel at this mail system mystery because he died of AIDS in 1995, Katie Brooke reported for WSET in Virginia.
Schrock told WSET he and his son didn’t always get along because of his son’s lifestyle, but the letter seemed like a message from heaven.
“That’s why I asked him if he made peace with God because I wanted to see him in heaven,” Schrock said.
The card was short and to the point, simply reading: “Dear Dad, we haven’t been in touch for quite a while, I’m doing fine and am very happy in Richmond, I’d like to hear from you. Have a Happy Father’s Day, Love Duane.”
