WEST VALLEY CITY — The zombie apocalypse? Nope … but there will be monsters roaming around Rocky Mountain Raceways this weekend.

Ten of them, actually, and they promise to be big, loud and ornery. But don’t be frightened; get excited.

This weekend is RMR’s annual monster truck event on the temporarily reconfigured America First Credit Union Super Oval, complete with twists, turns, jumps and a tantalizing layer of dirt. In all, 10 trucks will participate Saturday and Sunday in the Maverik Clash of the Titans, a fan-favorite event going back nearly two decades.

The 10 trucks scheduled to participate are Bigfoot (driven by Josh Gibson), Bigfoot Firestone (Larry Swim), Double Trouble (Tyler Groth), Trouble Maker (Travis Goth), Wild Thang (Doug Charles), Bounty Hunter (Jimmy Creten), Scarlet Bandit (Dawn Creten), Knuckle Head, Iron Outlaw and Maverik Trakker, driven by well-known local driver Ron Duncombe.

Saturday’s competition will feature a wheelie contest; Sunday’s will include a freestyle contest.

The main events have been scheduled for 6 p.m. each day. Gates will open at 4 p.m.

In addition to the monster trucks, RMR will have Super Moto and Legend racing. On Friday, the Young Kia Drag Strip will be the site for Summit ET racing, featuring Fastlane Machine Top Sportsman and Performance Place Top Dragsters.
