In the 12th and final video of "12 Steps to Change," a series produced by the Mormon Channel and LDS Family Services, a man named Erik shares his struggle with a drug addiction and how service played a role in his recovery.
Erik is one of 12 individuals featured in the series who discuss their addictions and the hope they found through the LDS Addiction Recovery Program.
In the video, Erik explains that his drug addiction led him to overdose and then jump from the third story of a building.
Erik attended recovery meetings prior to this event, but as he began going more consistently, his says his life "just started to fall into place." Applying the last step of the recovery program, service, by leading recovery meetings helped Erik recognize his potential.
"I am able to reach out to those who are struggling and to then let them know that they are not alone because there was a point where I felt that I was totally alone and that there was no way I could ever be forgiven," Erik said in the video. "The 12 steps helped me focus on the fact that not only am I an addict, but I am a son of God, and it's so important that I share that knowledge."
The Mormon Channel promoted Erik's video Saturday. The other videos in the series were promoted during the first two weeks of September, which is National Recovery Month. Each video focused on one step of the LDS Addiction Recovery Program.
