Want to take a Pinterest-worthy sunset picture but you aren't sure where to go? Utah has so many amazing places to view the sun as it drops behind the mountains and paints colors across the sky. These seven places won't be a disappointment.
Just west of Syracuse and over the bridge, Antelope Island is a fun drive or day trip. Surrounded by water, anywhere on the west side of Antelope Island gives a gorgeous view of the sunset. Two of the best spots are on top of Frary Peak (a three-mile hike) or on the beach. Plus you can see buffalo, antelope and other wildlife, too.
2. Dixie Rock at Pioneer Park in St. George
Dixie Rock is an easy hike that only takes a few minutes to summit. It is perfect because it overlooks the entire St. George valley, including views of the St. George Temple, downtown and red rocks. It is breathtaking as the sun dips into the horizon.
3. From the G
Just east of Pleasant Grove, the G has an amazing view of Utah Valley. The hike to the G is steep but fun. The hike takes about an hour, but is very worth it.
The Nebo Loop Drive is spectacular, but the best part is that you don't have to hike to see the views. There are several pull-offs that give gorgeous views of south Utah County, and the sun setting behind the mountains is impressive.
5. Squaw Peak
Squaw Peak Overlook is jokingly referred to as ‘Makeout Point’ by the local college students. However, it is a great place for everyone to see the sunset glitter off Utah Lake as it sets behind the mountains.
Access to Squaw Peak is through Provo Canyon and is a great drive with a gorgeous view.
6. Joseph Smith Memorial Building
With windows overlooking the valley on both sides of the building, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building gives beautiful views. The Rooftop Restaurant is a great place to see the sun go down over Salt Lake City. As the light fades, the temple is illuminated. As you are at eye level, it is a beautiful sight.
7. On the water
Utah has many lakes surrounded by water. You can't go wrong on most of the lakes. Watching the sun set from a kayak on Utah Lake is especially memorable. Deer Creek is gorgeous when the sun touches the mountain ridges. Bear Lake also dances with color as the sun sinks below the horizon.
