Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, could have a conflict of interest this Saturday when the BYU Cougars face the Michigan Wolverines on the football field.
A tweet from broadcaster Robbie Bullough on Wednesday pointed out that Monson's biography "To the Rescue" details his love of the maize and blue.
"It is a rite of passage to be invited to join Grandpa in the basement on game day," reads the book authored by Heidi S. Swinton. "He presents each grandchild a Michigan cap in a special ceremony with the Michigan fight song playing in the background. If the team falters in the first half, he switches the maize and blue hats to blue and maize ones to spur the team on."
Fans react to Utes' first appearance on 'The Drive'
Ever since it was announced in May that the University of Utah football team would be featured on the Pac-12 Networks' special show "The Drive," fans have been looking forward to getting a detailed look at Kyle Whittingham's club.
They finally got their chance Wednesday night as the first episode aired, and Twitter reviews were very positive.
Visiting SUU football stadium on FCS bucket list
It's been noted this season that BYU and Utah would play in a slew of storied stadiums around the country, but there's one just south of Provo and Salt Lake City that is a must-see, according to Andy Caffaro of herosports.com.
In a list of eight FCS stadiums to visit before one dies, Caffaro puts SUU's Eccles Coliseum fifth.
"Renovated in 1997, Eccles Coliseum features sensationally scenic red mountains to the east and west to provide a breathtaking view during Southern Utah home games," Caffaro writes.
