The creation of a new branch in Ilovu was an answer to the prayers of LDS Church members in South Africa.
According to Mormon Newsroom South Africa, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ilovu were previously part of the Amanzimtoti Ward and would travel there for meetings.
Due to the challenges of transportation, in 2010, the members in Ilovu were allowed to hold cottage meetings in Ilovu following the Amanzimtoti meetings.
In 2014, they received permission to hold their own meetings as a group but were still considered part of the Amanzimtoti Ward.
On Sunday, the members in Ilovu became an official branch of the LDS Church, with their own branch presidency.
