FILLMORE — District Ranger Del Barnhurst, who began his career with the Forest Service in 1974 in Winnemucca, Nevada, has announced his retirement.

During his 42 years of service, Barnhurst also served in Beaver; Miles City, Montana; Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Ephraim. He moved to Fillmore in April 1990, working as a range management specialist. In 2010 he became the district ranger on the Fillmore Ranger District.

Barnhurst worked in range management most of his career and has enjoyed working to improve range conditions — and in turn increase beef production. He has also been active in prescribed fire and wildfire suppression and served several years on fire incident management teams.
