“SCRIPTURE STUDY MADE SIMPLE: The Book of Mormon — Complete Commentary in a Single Volume,” by Kathryn Jenkins Gordon, Covenant Communications, $34.99, 630 pages (nf)
Kathryn Jenkins Gordon has two sets of scriptures — the leather quad she brings to church and the faux-leather triple combination she bought as a freshman at BYU. It’s the triple that she’s highlighted, written in the margins, inserted typed up quotes and added in squiggles and strings of exclamation marks for emphasis, she writes in the introduction of her recent “Scripture Study Made Simple: The Book of Mormon — Complete Commentary in a Single Volume.”
She uses the notes and references in her well-annotated triple combination as a reference for “Scripture Study Made Simple: The Book of Mormon.” It includes the Book of Mormon, verse by verse, with green-type insertions of quotes and references from general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and scholars, notes on historical context and other helpful terminology clarifications, and some of Gordon's personal observations.
There are also several information boxes throughout focusing on a person’s story, including bulleted lists of facts about the individual, accomplishments, errors (if applicable) and lessons to learn from him or her.
“Scripture Study Made Simple: The Book of Mormon” is ideal for those who are reading the Book of Mormon again and are looking for additional clarifications and insights.
Gordon is the managing editor at Covenant Communications, the author of several books and the gospel doctrine teacher in her Orem ward.
