The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held two sessions of its 186th Semiannual General Conference on Saturday.

One of the main messages to come out of the morning session, according to our own Tad Walch, was the hope that Mormons share Christian love with the people they meet in life.

"Let us turn more toward forgiveness, kindness and love," Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said during the first session. "Let us renounce the war that so often rages in the hearts of the natural man and proclaim Christ's caring, love and peace."

Members and nonmembers alike shared their own thoughts through social media. As usual with general conference, the hashtag #LDSConf topped the Salt Lake City trending list and placed third on the United States trending list, too.

Some even shared photos of themselves at the Conference Center.

The event was not lost on high-profile individuals, either. Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch and "American Idol" sensation David Archuleta both celebrated the first day.

LDS Church leaders tweeted their sentiments about the event, reiterating some of the messages they spoke about.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson's name (#ElderStevenson) trended in Salt Lake City, with most people championing his call for Mormons to appreciate the Book of Mormon.

The word “prayer” also trended in Salt Lake City, as conference viewers championed the continued suggestion by LDS leaders for members to pray.

On a rather comedic note, other people were ecstatic about how President Dieter F. Uchtdorf mentioned "diet soda" during his talk. It provided some funny Twitter commentary.

Overall, Twitter approved of the first day of conference.
