Carrie Underwood performed in Salt Lake City Monday night, and she also just had a concert at Madison Square Garden this week. And though she was happy to excite tens of thousands of screaming fans, Underwood’s priority in life isn’t to sing on stage.
It’s to be a mother, she said.
“At the end of the day everything that I’m doing now is going to fade, but I’m going to be a mom until the day I die, so that’s more important,” she said, according to Express. “In however many years, I don’t know how many it’ll take, but people will be like, ‘Oh, yeah, I remember that name’. That’s just the way any job is. But I’ll be a mom and a wife forever, so that definitely takes precedence over everything else.”
Underwood said it’s not always easy being a mother. Sleep is hard to come by and raising a child can be a sloppy and messy affair.
She also said it’s difficult for her to make sure her son, Isaiah, sees his mother and father equally, and that can be tough when Underwood is on the road.
But she said her faith helps her stay positive throughout her career. Underwood's faith has always played a part in her career. We’ve seen this played out through songs like “Jesus Take the Wheel” and “Something in the Water,” a song about her baptism.
“It’s the backbone of all that I do. I’m lucky that singing in country music it’s not frowned upon and it’s not strange,” she said, according to Express. “It’s hard to imagine setting too many more professional goals. I think a lot of the things that I look forward to are more personal things.”
Some of those personal things include building a new home and growing her small family.
“You can’t plan too far ahead in the music business just because you never know what’s going to happen, but it’s all good,” she said. “It’s got me this far, and I think just trusting the path that we’re on and keeping eyes and ears open for interesting creative opportunities is always good, and trying to balance life.”
