AMERICAN FORK — Timpanogos Cave National Monument has launched a state-of- the-art distance learning program for schools and classrooms, with the goal of virtually bringing students to the park for curriculum-based exploration and discovery.

Like actual field trips, the hourlong distance learning opportunities feature park-based topics that align with national core curriculum science standards. Programs include ranger and student presentations, reading, writing and activities. With no bus required, these events are free to the school.

Through technology, park staff and teachers can bring students from anywhere in the country together to explore the science that shaped the earth and created Timpanogos Cave.

Programs will be available yearly from November through March. For more information or to register a classroom for a virtual program, go to nps.gov/tica/learn/education/distance-learning.htm.

To connect with the park, each school must have video conferencing equipment or a computer, projector and webcam with a microphone.
