FORT DUCHESNE, Uintah County — A wild, prolonged chase and a shot fired early Sunday ended in no injuries, but landed one man in custody as well as two teenagers.
A federal Bureau of Indian Affairs officer tried to stop a car from speeding at 2:45 a.m. on 6500 East, but the vehicle sped off through the town and headed toward Vernal. One of the occupants from the fleeing vehicle fired a shot from a handgun, according to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office.
The vehicle pursuit reached speeds in town of 90 mph and as the fleeing vehicle approached Vernal on U.S. 40, it eclipsed 100 mph. During this time, the department said, items were being thrown from the vehicle.
Before the pursuit reached Vernal, an officer deployed tire spikes which drew the chase to a close.
The adult man, identified by authorities as Jarvis C. Cuch, 27, of Fort Duchesne, was a fugitive from justice sought by U.S. marshals. He was booked into jail for investigation of aggravated assault on a police officer, DUI, obstruction of justice, child endangerment and other offenses. The juveniles were taken to a detention center and later released to family.
