WANSHIP, Summit County — Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office and the North Summit Fire Department were back at the scene of a fire Friday that destroyed a home.
About 7:10 p.m. Thursday, neighbors called 911 to report a house fire near the intersection of Rockport Road and Lakeside Drive. The first arriving units found flames shooting out of the front of the home and were forced to immediately go into a defensive attack, said North Summit fire spokesman Tyler Rowser.
The house was considered a total loss, but Rowser did not have an estimated dollar figure for the damage. No one was home at the time of the fire. Rowser said he did not know if the structure was a vacation home or occupied by full-time residents.
The cause of the fire was unknown Friday, he said. Rowser said fighting the fire was challenging because of a limited water supply in the area. Water had to be shipped in from other areas to help put out the flames, he said.
Snow on the ground helped prevent the fire from spreading to other nearby homes, Rowser said. Firefighters remained on scene until about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
