In the past, LDS Church members on the island of 'Atata had to travel 6 miles across the ocean in order to attend Sunday services.
Mormon Newsroom Pacific reported that church members on the island of 'Atata attended Sunday services on their island for the first time on Feb. 28.
“I recall the times when members have traveled back and forth from ‘Atata to attend church,” President Tu'ihalangingie, a local LDS leader, told Mormon Newsroom Pacific. “There are days when the ocean is calm and welcoming — and the next day it is rough and angry!”
Prince 'Ata, prince of Tonga, attended the services on the island.
The first baptisms on the island also took place on Feb. 28.
