On Saturday, April 9, Elder Carl B. Cook of the Seventy presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Durban South Africa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to Mormon Newsroom.
"Today the ceremonial shovels will turn the soil, and the construction of the temple will begin,” Elder Cook said. “We can likewise begin building. We can build our personal lives in preparation for the temple. Today we can increase our faith. We can increase our obedience to God and serve him more fully.”
The Durban Temple will be the second temple in South Africa. There are three operating temples in Africa: the Aba Nigeria Temple, the Accra Ghana Temple and the Johannesburg South Africa Temple. The continent has temples in progress in three other locations: Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Harare, Zimbabwe; and Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
