Nick Vigil is joining his brother in the pros.
Vigil, the only early entrant from a Utah school in this year's NFL draft, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 87th overall pick in Friday's third round.
The inside linebacker takes a nose for the football with him to the big leagues.
"He's a good fit for us," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told the Associated Press. "He comes in with ability, speed in special teams, and playmaking and all those things you want from a young linebacker when he comes into the NFL."
Vigil was USU’s biggest weapon on defense — and occasionally on offense — as the Mountain West’s top tackler in 2015 with 144. A former standout at Fremont High School, he is the younger brother of Zach, who played 16 games for the Dolphins at linebacker last year after signing as an undrafted free agent.
After playing most of his redshirt freshman year and starting all of his sophomore and junior years, Nick Vigil earned first-team all-Mountain West honors in both seasons.
The biggest feather in Vigil’s cap is his 38 tackles for a loss, which is a school record.
NFL Combine: He had a 4.72 40-yard dash and a 31.5 inch vertical jump, but his most impressive results were his three-cone drill time of 6.73 seconds and his 20-yard shuttle time of 4.00 seconds — both were best in the Combine at his position.
Scouting Vigil: “Vigil's instincts and agility are NFL-caliber, but he'll need to be protected in his defensive line at the next level, making him best-suited to middle or weak-side linebacker in a traditional 4-3 alignment.” — CBSSports.com
