Elizabeth Smart, president of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, spoke Wednesday at the Cannon Activities Center at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
“It’s not what happens to us that sets us apart,” she told the audience. “It’s the decisions that we make, it’s the choices that we make, the way we decide to lead our lives — that is what defines what we truly are."
Smart's abduction in 2002 and return to her family in 2003 was “one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time,” according to the description below the YouTube video.
“In this special fireside, she shares her story of triumph over tribulation and shares her testimony of faith in our Heavenly Father's plan and our Savior's love for her and anyone else who may be going through trials,” the description continues. “Her inspiring story is uplifting and eye-opening.”
