"THE WASHINGTON HYPOTHESIS: A Modern-day Investigator Explores the Possible Connection Between the American Covenant, Latter-day Temples and George Washington," by Timothy Ballard, Deseret Book, $22.99, 255 pages (nf)
George Washington's mother must have known something about his future and the influence his actions would have on the United States of America for generations to come.
"Go, George, fulfill the high destinies which heaven appears to have intended for you," she said on her deathbed.
Author Timothy Ballard shares about the remarkable life of this key figure of the Revolutionary War and the first U.S. president in his book "The Washington Hypothesis."
In the book, Ballard examines facts about Washington's life, character and beliefs, drawing conclusions about the divinity of his role in American history. Ballard then compares those facts with teachings in the Book of Mormon regarding America as the promised land, where the Lord promised to give liberty and protection to his righteous people.
"'The Washington Hypothesis' is a bold conjecture based on extensive historical research," according to a publisher's note in the book's opening pages. "The miraculous events of the Revolution and the remarkable strength of character embodied in George Washington are demonstrable facts. … Ballard has shared many of those facts and drawn some fascinating conclusions from them. Whether or not you come to the same conclusions … we believe you will gain a new appreciation for the events that shaped America as a nation and for the greatness of its first president, George Washington."
"The Washington Hypothesis" follows Ballard's "The Lincoln Hypothesis," which investigated Abraham Lincoln's possible connections to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and evidence that he may have studied the Book of Mormon during the Civil War.
Ballard, a Brigham Young University graduate, is a member of the LDS Church who has worked for the CIA and Department of Homeland Security. He is the founder and CEO of Operation Underground Railroad, an organization that saves children from sex trafficking.
