One year ago this month, on May 30, 2015, Elder L. Tom Perry died at the age of 92 from the effects of cancer. At the time of his passing, he had served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 41 years.

In the wake of his death, Elder Perry was remembered as a husband, a father, a Marine, an avid sports fan and a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Elder Quentin L. Cook, a fellow member of Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, admired Elder Perry for his testimony.

“Tom Perry bore a powerful witness of Jesus Christ,” Elder Cook said in a release issued by Mormon Newsroom following Elder Perry's death. “He knew the Savior; he loved the Savior.”

Elder Perry was also admired for his genuine, caring nature.

“It was just always the little things that represented a consideration on his part for what others were going through,” his son, Lee Perry, said in an interview with the Deseret News. “He just wasn’t the person who thought of himself. He was much more concerned about others. That’s the way he lived his life.”

On the anniversary of Elder Perry’s death, we look back at the Deseret News' coverage of this LDS apostle's life.
