The Cache Valley to Cheesehead connection continues.
Utah State safety Marwin Evans signed with the Green Bay Packers to their 90-man roster on Monday, a source confirmed to the Deseret News. Over the weekend, Evans had been in Seattle on a tryout basis with the Seahawks at their rookie mini-camp.
Evans is the third Aggie rookie to join the Packers in the past two weeks. Linebacker Kyler Fackrell was selected by Green Bay in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft, then wide receiver Devonte Robinson signed with the Packers an as undrafted free agent and was at Packers mini-camp with Fackrell this past weekend.
The 6-foot, 210-pound Evans spent two seasons in the Aggie program after playing one year at Highland (Kansas) Community College and his freshman season at Rochester (Minnesota) Community College.
As a senior with Utah State in 2015, Evans started 13 games and finished fourth on the team with 73 tackles and tied for first with two forced fumbles. He also had 10 tackles for loss, two sacks and five pass breakups, as well as a 90-interception return for a touchdown against Boise State.
During Utah State's Pro Day on April 6, Evans clocked a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash and had a leap of 42 inches in the vertical jump.
With Green Bay adding Evans, there are five players with Utah ties currently on the Packers' roster. Second-year BYU cornerback Robertson Daniel and Cougar linebacker Manoa Pikula — another undrafted rookie free-agent addition — are also on the Packers' team, in additon to Evans, Fackrell and Robinson.
