An animated short film created by the BYU Center for Animation was recently awarded a Student Emmy Award for Best Music Composition. The film, titled “Papá,” relies heavily on the music composed by Jordan Kamalu, a recently graduated student, as it does not have dialogue.

The film tells the story of a daughter whose father has passed away but accompanies her as she goes on a date.
“I felt the story had the potential to touch on some deeper, heartfelt themes like death, letting go and trust, while still maintaining a warm, charming feeling with potential for humor along the way,” Danny Russon, the film’s student writer and director, told BYU News.
