PAYSON — The City Council has approved a total $6 monthly base rate increase in residents’ water rates effective July 1.
City officials say the $3 increase in culinary water and $3 increase in pressurized irrigation systems are needed to repair deficiencies in the system, install meters to encourage water conservation and pursue addition water sources.
The council also adopted a tiered culinary water rate to comply with a new water pricing law.
Residents will pay 86 cents per 1,000 gallons up to 5,999 gallons. After that, the rate per gallon will be $1.11 for 6,000 to 17,999 gallons, and $1.36 per gallon for 18,000 gallons and above.
