After three days of intense public debate, Real Salt Lake has reinstated Salt Lake Tribune columnist Gordon Monson's media credential.
The team announced the decision in a statement Tuesday afternoon, a few hours before its friendly against Inter Milan at Rio Tinto Stadium.
"At the behest of Major League Soccer and in accordance with league policy, Real Salt Lake has reinstated media access and related privileges to the Salt Lake Tribune columnist," said RSL chief business officer Andy Carroll in the statement.
Last Saturday, before RSL's home match against the New England Revolution, the newspaper alerted readers that it had decided not to staff the contest after Monson's credential was revoked on Friday, a move that barred Monson from the press box and from post-match interviews.
The Tribune reported that Carroll had made the decision because of comments Monson made in columns that were critical of RSL owner Dell Loy Hansen.
Tonight's match begins at 8 p.m.
