FARMINGTON — The Davis School District's business administrator, Craig Carter, will serve as interim superintendent of schools beginning Sept. 1.
That was the unanimous decision Tuesday by the district's board of education, which is conducting an intensive search for a new superintendent after W. Bryan Bowles announced his retirement two weeks ago. Bowles has been the district's top executive for the past 14 years and will retain the position until Aug. 31.
"Although there are other great leaders and qualified individuals in the district who could have been asked to fill the interim position, the board is mindful of the start of the school year and the domino effect of temporarily shifting roles and responsibilities," board vice president Mona Andrus said in a prepared statement. "The board chose this direction to minimize the impact to students, teachers and school operations."
Carter has been the districts business administrator since early 2010. Previously, he served as director of transportation, oversaw the district's warehouse and became administrator of support services. He has also worked for the Morgan School District and for Unisys Corp.
The board also selected the districts finance and accounting administrator, Tim Leffel, to serve as interim business administrator beginning Sept. 1.
Board members expect to name a new superintendent of schools by early November and is in the process of finalizing a timeline for public input, application ratings and candidate interviews.
