Editor's note: In anticipation of the 121st college football season in Utah, DeseretNews.com writer Jay Yeomans is ranking the 50 greatest Division I college football players of all time from the state of Utah. We're counting down the 50 days until Sept. 1 when Southern Utah at Utah and Weber State at Utah State kick off at 6 p.m. Rankings are based on what the player did during his college career.

21. Lee Grosscup, Utah, quarterback (1957-58)

Grosscup played just two seasons at Utah after transferring from Washington, but he was one of the most impressive and decorated signal-callers in school history.

His best season came in 1957 when he led Utah to a Skyline Conference championship while earning first-team all-conference and All-American honors. That year, he led the nation in passing yards (1,398), while completing 68.6 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions to finish 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting.

For his Utah career, he completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 2,226 yards and 13 touchdowns to go along with seven rushing scores.
