The Utah Valley University women's soccer team held its annual Green and White scrimmage at Clyde Field on Saturday evening with the Green squad taking a 3-1 victory over team White.
"I thought we had some good build up play from both teams," Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson said. "You could see there was a little bit more experience on the Green team. You could see that in the attack. We saw some great things that we can build on definitely as we get ready for next weekend. I thought overall we looked good. We moved the ball around well but need to be a little more dangerous in the attacking third and we will work on that this week as we prepare for our season opener."
Breanna McCarter got the scoring started in the 11th minute as she received a pass from Taylor Kirk on the left side and fired it past the keeper from the middle of the box for the early 1-0 advantage. Sydney Fitzpatrick then put the Green squad up 2-0 in the 17th minute as she took a pass from McCarter and put in the back of the net for the goal.
The White squad got on the scoreboard in the second half after a corner kick landed in the box and found the hand of a Green squad member. Lexi Felis capitalized by firing the penalty kick into the net go give team White its first score of the match.
Team Green secured the win with a goal in the 47th minute when Tori Smith set herself up at the top of the box and put the ball past the keeper as the team extended its lead to a 3-1 advantage.
The UVU women's soccer team also hosted its annual Alumni Game following the conclusion of the Green and White Scrimmage on Saturday evening, and the contest featured a slew of former Wolverine greats from the past decade.
"It's fun to have them all back," Anderson said. "These women worked hard together and they have created something special here at UVU. They have built this program up and we're really appreciative of them and all that they have done for us. I'm glad that they would come back and be a part of our program still. I hope that they always feel that they have a home here with us. This match grows every year. Every year we get more and more alumni back. I love it and its great for us to have them here."
Saturday's contests marked the final tune-up for the Wolverines, as they officially open their 2016 season at Northern Arizona on Friday, Aug. 19.
