Editor's note: In anticipation of the 121st college football season in Utah, DeseretNews.com writer Jay Yeomans is ranking the 50 greatest Division I college football players of all time from the state of Utah. We're counting down the 50 days until Sept. 1 when Southern Utah at Utah and Weber State at Utah State kick off at 6 p.m. Rankings are based on what the player did during his college career.

17. Rob Morris, BYU, linebacker (1993, 1996-99)

During his time in Provo, Morris was as dominant a linebacker as the Cougars have ever had. He was a two-time first-team all-conference performer, a two-time All-American and the 1998 WAC Defensive Player of the Year.

One of his best years came as a junior in 1998 when he was named a First-Team All-American by Football News after he recorded 147 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, six sacks and four pass break-ups.

For his BYU career, he had 333 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 21 hurries, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles. He was inducted into the BYU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.
