OREM — Actress and singer Laura Osnes is coming back to Utah. This time, she'll be performing with singer Mark Masri and the Utah Valley Symphony at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre in Orem this Saturday.
This is Osnes' third recent performance in Utah. She was the guest artist at the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas and Pioneer Day concerts in 2015.
"I think it is going to be a really fun time, and I'm really excited," Osnes said in an interview with the Deseret News. "(Utah) has always been a very warm audience.”
Osnes, who received a Tony nomination for her portrayal of the title role in the Broadway production of "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella," is headed back to Broadway this fall in "The Bandstand," according to Broadway.com.
This year, she said she's been traveling and doing concerts around the country.
"It is really fun to visit different cities and see the fans and audiences across the country," she said.
Saturday's concert will be the first time Osnes and Masri have performed together.
“I hope (the performance) will be a pretty powerful moment,” Osnes said. “(Masri) has an amazing voice, and obviously, getting to sing with an orchestra is always really wonderful."
Masri previously performed at the SCERA’s festival with songwriter Jim Brickman, “making a connection” with him while performing on stage, Masri said. Brickman is on the SCERA's National Advisory Board.
“(Orem) is a beautiful city," Masri said. "I love the city, and the people are warm.”
This time, Masri will be doing a collection of songs, including original ones he has recorded the last few years on a couple of his albums. He said his music "tends to be of a romantic nature.”
"With (Osnes') theater background and my classical background, those worlds tend to come together beautifully," Masri said.
