Weber State football team shaves heads in support of coach's wife battling cancer

Sara Hill, wife of Weber State head football coach Jay Hill, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma earlier in August. She begins chemotherapy this week and decided to shave her head in preparation.

Family, friends and Weber State football players had a head-shaving party to support her, but Hill wasn't the only one to shave her head. Weber State football players and coaches shaved their heads as well as an additional sign of their support.

According to her blog, Hill's journey began in February when she noticed a lump on her back and went to the doctor to have it checked out. The lump turned out to be a fatty benign tumor.

Though not life threatening, she had it removed and began physical therapy. While working out about three weeks after the surgery, she felt a pull and began having pain and additional inflamation around her chest.

After a few months and no improvement, Hill went back to the doctor, who determined she had a torn pectoral muscle.

"By mid-June I was going a little crazy," Hill wrote on her blog. " I couldn't do the things I wanted to do. My chest was always sore even after resting it and keeping my morning workouts to legs and cardio."

While working out in the yard, Hill found a tender, ping pong ball-sized lump in her armpit. The lump surprized the doctor, and he recommended a biopsy of the lymph node. The results of the biopsey confirmed HIll had Hodgkin lymphoma. The doctor explained that the cancer has high survival rate and common treatments.

"We left still in a bit of shock but I was confident and optimistic," Hill wrote.

Hill also referenced her faith in her blog post.

"I am a fighter and I am strong," she wrote. "There are going to be some rough days ahead but both Jay and I know that we are so lucky to be where we are with a wonderful ward, neighborhood, friends, family and football family that will make the process much easier. We have been watched over and so much over the past 2.5 years has been artfully designed by our loving Heavenly Father. We are filled with peace and love."
