PROVO — The Daily Herald has been sold to a West Virginia company that owns 40 newspapers across 14 states.

Newspaper chain Lee Enterprises Inc. announced Monday that it was selling the Provo newspaper and its digital media operations to Ogden Newspapers of Utah LLC.

The company is part of Ogden Newspapers Inc. out of Wheeling, West Virginia.

It's not affiliated with the Standard-Examiner newspaper in Ogden, which is owned by Sandusky Newspapers Inc. of Ohio.

Ogden Newspapers Inc. CEO Robert Nutting said in a statement that the Daily Herald and its digital side provide tremendous value, trustworthy reporting and effective advertising.

The Provo newspaper has a daily circulation of about 20,000. Lee had owned The Daily Herald since 2005.

The sale is expected to close on Aug. 29.
