Referred to by Simon Cowell as “the next Taylor Swift,” 12-year-old ukulele player Grace VanderWaal, who captured hearts across America in her first televised audition, performed again on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” stage—this time in the quarterfinals.
As she finished the performance of her original song, “Beautiful Thing,” the young singer-songwriter from New York brought all three judges to their feet.
“Wow. Definitely a beautiful thing,” said Nick Cannon, the host of “America’s Got Talent,” after VanderWaal had finished her song.
According to a video interview with Teen Vogue, VanderWaal didn’t start singing in public until about a year ago.
“I kept going to coffee shops, doing open mic nights, and I slowly got better,” she told Teen Vogue.
“America’s Got Talent” features talents from people who come from a variety of backgrounds and ages.
“The series is a true celebration of the American spirit, featuring a colorful array of singers, dancers, comedians, contortionists, impressionists, jugglers, magicians, ventriloquists and hopeful stars, all vying for their chance to win America's hearts and the $1 million prize,” read the description below the video.
