Editor's note: In anticipation of the 121st college football season in Utah, DeseretNews.com writer Jay Yeomans is ranking the 50 greatest Division I college football players of all time from the state of Utah. We're counting down the 50 days until Sept. 1 when Southern Utah at Utah and Weber State at Utah State kick off at 6 p.m. Rankings are based on what the player did during his college career.
7. Jason Buck, BYU, defensive tackle (1985-86)
Although he played just two seasons with the Cougars, he was one of the most dominant defensive players BYU has ever had.
He was two-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection, the 1985 WAC Defensive Player of the Year, a two-time All-American and an Outland Trophy winner.
His most impressive season came in 1986 when he was a consensus All-American and won the Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman in college football. That year, he totaled 59 tackles, 17 quarterback hurries, 13 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
For his BYU career, he had 112 tackles, 44 hurries, 25 sacks and 20 tackles for loss.
