PROVO — BYUtv announced the launch of the its second original drama series "Extinct" that will premier in early 2017. The sci-fi series will be created by Orson Scott Card, author of "Ender's Game," and New York Times bestselling author Aaron Johnston, according to information from BYUtv.

Chad Michael Collins is set to star as Ezra in the 10-episode series that takes place 400 years after the extinction of the human race, according to a news release.

The story follows a group of humans that are revived by an alien civilization that claims it wants to restore the human species. The reborn humans uncover a plot that challenges the aliens' claim, and new dangers threaten to destroy the human race again, according to information from BYUtv.

Other cast members include Victoria Atkin, Jaclyn Hales, Yorke Fryer, Jack Depew, Matthew Bellows and Jake Stormoen.

"Extinct" will be produced by Adam Abel, who was involved with "Forever Strong" and "Freetown," and directed by Ryan Little, whose films include the Saints and Soldiers movies.
