SALT LAKE CITY — A video from Prepare to Serve shows returned missionaries talking about the craziest foods they ate while serving missions throughout the world for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Some of the foods listed include caterpillars, jellyfish tentacles, grasshopper tacos, fried ant eggs, silkworm larva, pumpkin leaves, fish intestines, rats, termites, tarantula, whale steak and reindeer meat.
A few of the returned missionaries talked about enjoying some the unusual foods they ate, such as warthog, dog and horse meat. Others were not so impressed.
“Sometimes there’s things I ate that I had no idea what they were,” one returned missionary said in the video. “I just didn’t even ask.”
Another returned missionary talked about his experience with a fluorescent pink-purple drink made of boiled, concentrated cabbage juice on his mission.
“You’ll get it once in a while. They use it to wake up after they’ve had a hangover or something,” he said in the video. “It’s vicious; like get ready, it’ll rock your world if you drink it.”
The video is about 7 1/2 minutes long and lists 99 peculiar foods returned LDS missionaries ate while serving their missions.
