SALT LAKE CITY — Utah safety Marquise Blair, who is third on the team in tackles with 48, will miss the remainder of the season because of a lower-leg injury. The junior college transfer had three tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery (taken back 18 yards for a touchdown against USC) in his first season with the Utes.
Utah coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed that Blair is “done for the year” after getting hurt in Friday’s 48-17 win over UCLA.
“I feel horrible for Marquise. He was really coming along and obviously became a starter for us and a contributor on special teams,” said Whittingham, who added that the injury is severe enough that Blair will likely miss spring ball as well.
“So it’s not ideal, but he'll rebound,” Whittingham continued. "He’s a tough kid. He’ll get back on track.”
Corrion Ballard will replace Blair as the starter at free safety.
