Shelly Burton hugs Darren Mann after receiving a Life Saving Award from the Unified Fire Authority at the Riverton fire station 124 on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017. On 08/16/17, at approximately 19:40, three civilians, Shelly Burton, Stefanie Burt and Meghan Allen, witnessed Mann collapse while playing frisbee in the park located next to Station 124. The women immediately began CPR. One witness ran to UFA station 124 which borders the park. The crew at station 124 were actually pulling out of their driveway, en route to a different call that had already been dispatched, when the witness arrived and flagged them down. Upon hearing the scenario of CPR in progress they immediately contacted dispatch and diverted to the incident at Riverton park. Upon arrival the paramedics did an assessment , and determined that the cardiac issue required defibrillation, after delivering shock in hopes of “re-setting” the hearts own natural electrical system a pulse was restored.
